Meet Your Maker

Brandon Stark (he/him)- Owner, Designer, Craftsman

"I started working full time in construction soon after graduating high school in 2012. I always enjoyed using my hands to make things but never thought I would be able to make a living out of it and certainly never envisioned that I would be a full time custom furniture maker in Los Angeles.

After years of learning various trades I found myself getting bored with the daily repetitive tasks of the typical 9-5. I discovered that I really enjoyed the fine details of projects as well as being able to use my creative mind to design and make beautiful things.

As an artist it's always been a challenge to take the vision inside my mind and be able to translate that into reality. Woodworking has been one of the best outlets for me to be able to do that. I don't just do this for work, I do this because I have a passion for creating.

In the beginning of 2020 I left my 9-5 job and decided it was time to pursue my passion. After years of working for other companies I was finally able to start my own business as a General Contractor with a focus on custom built-in furniture. In the beginning, I took any work that I could find. It was a slow start but eventually I was able to build the reputation I have today of quality work and great customer service.

My wife, Joan, and I started Pearlwood Studio after moving to Los Angeles as a rebranding of my previous general contracting business. We have shifted our focus from general home renovations into creating beautiful one of a kind pieces of furniture and functional art. We've met countless incredible people through this process and we are so grateful for the success we've had and continue to have. We would love to hear your story and see how we can write a chapter together."

Our Team

We are a small business. Most of our operations are run by two people: Brandon & Joan. Brandon and Joan are not only business partners but life partners as well. They have been married for 8 years and continue to surprise each other.

Our Values

People matter most. We are a LGBTQ+ friendly business. We welcome people of all walks of life regardless of age, sexual orientation, religion, or nationality. Our goal is to always provide a safe and inclusive environment for everyone around us. We place a high value on quality. If you are going to make something, make it right the first time! We don't believe in cutting corners or using cheap low grade materials. We make things that wear-in instead of wear-out. We are deeply connected to nature and believe that the earth is a living being. We honor and respect all the materials that we use during our creative process. We are continuously striving to be more environmentally friendly.

Our Process

The first step in our process is our Initial Consultation. This is a time where we can talk with our potetial client to see if we would be a good fit for their project. During this consultation we talk about general scope of the project and talk through some initial design details. After the initial consultation, we will put together a bid that will include what the project will cost as well as a general outline and duration estimate. Once the client approves of the scope of work and the price we can move toward the next phase of the project. During this phase we will accept the first 50% payment and finalize the design details. Once the design is finalized and payment is received, our team will order materials and begin fabrication. Once the fabrication phase is nearing completion, we will reach out to the client to coordinate delivery and installation. After delivery and/or installation we will then receive the final 50% payment. At that time you will have a brand new custom piece that you will enjoy for the rest of you life!
